Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo

I decided that there was no way for me to write this without containing spoilers so if you haven’t read the first book, and want to I would skip this review until after you’ve read the first one. That being said, I will still try my best to be as vague as possible, and not ruin the entire second book.

I will say that I was disappointed by the character growth in the second book. I wanted something more from Alina and Mal. They were easily tracked down by The Darkling out of pure carelessness, like Mal you’re a skilled tracker you should KNOW better!

They introduced some characters that I wasn’t sold on. Nikolia, seemed like he wanted to do a good thing by defeating the Darkling. His motivation was power, and his brother, Vasily, was just an idiot. I couldn’t tell if Nikolia was just lusting after Alina, or just wanted to really combine their status/magical power to be the ultimate power couple ruling Ravka. Probably both.

As much as I hated it, and disappointed in the direction the plot went. I was thrilled with the scenes that contained The Darkling. I still want them to be together. I know, it’s bad. Honestly, my favorite part about this book was the pirates! I wish there were more about it them, and less about Alina thinking about Mal. I really dislike Mal.

I will say that Bardugo’s writing style is captivating. I couldn’t put it down and ended up reading it in a night.

Let me know what you thought about Siege and Storm.
